The route begins near the Ramlieh Hostel and descends down a diverse woodland where hikers can observe old trees such as cypress, oak, stone pine, calabrian pine, and a mixture of plant species endemic to this area. The violet trail signs are clearly visible and easily guide you all the way through. At the end of the trail lies one of AFDC’s tree nurseries. The Lime Kiln sits just behind the nursery. The Earliest of AFDC’s Nurseries Was Established in Ramlieh
The required nursery knowledge and skills were all gained here. Cedrus libani (Cedar Oak), Cupressus sempervirens (Cypress), Juniperus excelsa (Grecian Juniper), and Juniperus oxicedrus (Prickly Juniper) are cultivated. In addition several important broadleaves trees and shrubs have been successfully grown and they include the most common oak species of Lebanon (Quercus calliprinos (Kermes Oak)and Q. infectoria (Cyprus Oak)), essential river trees and shrubs (Platanus orientalis (Oriental Plane), Alnus orientalis (Oriental Alder), Salix alba (White Willow) and Nerium oleander (Oleander)), in addition to several common forest trees and shrubs (Acer syriacum (Syrian Maple), Acer tauricolum (Taurus Maple), Pistacia palaestina (Palestine Pistachio), Myrtus communis (Common Myrtle)).
